History of the World in Nursery Rhyme From the Naughty Year Naught To the Present Time, In Three Volumes [Complete, 3 Volume Set]
Harvey Lindsley Page, the Mills Engraving Company, Wood-Brownlee Printing Company, San Antonio, Texas 1908 - First Edition. Hardcover. 7" X 5 1/4". 60pp; 55pp; 69pp. Pictorial paper over boards with spines backed in red cloth and lettered in gilt to side. Moderate wear to bindings, with bumping and rubbing to extremities, mild dust soiling, and light scattered rubbing. Hinges tender to Volume I. Front hinge cracking to Volume III. Toning to endpapers. All bindings sound. All pages clean and unmarked. An all together quite well-preserved set of a scarcer title. Eight holdings in OCLC at time of posting. Illustrated throughout in works copied from biblical, historical, and art works by the Mills Engraving Company. From Adam and Eve, through Buddha, Confucius, Hannibal, Caesar, the Middle Ages, the Fall of Constantinople, the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and the Alamo, of course, ending with a very approving rhyme about Theodore Roosevelt: "He can ride and he's honest; an all round good man;/ He acts as he thinks and he don't give a ---." A delightful example of early Twentieth Century humorous and historical verse. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
