Some foxing to botanical plates. Plate III in second botanical section sticking to page after it. Former owner of this volume was Walter Shanly (1819-1899), Canadian civil engineer, author, businessman, and politician, remembered for his work on railways and canals. Although overshadowed by his brother Francis, Walter was a vital agent in the professionalization of civil engineering in Canada. The Walter Shanly award is the most important award of the Construction Division of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
