Isherwood's favorite of his own novels, a frank, sympathetic, and moving portrait of a gay middle-aged British university professor adjusting to solitude after the tragic death of his young partner. The novel served as the basis of a 2009 American drama film directed by Tom Ford and starring Colin Firth, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance. Inscribed by Isherwood on the title page, and additionally signed by Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult, who earned critical acclaim for his role in the film. Accompanied by a pair of tickets to a special screening of the film at the American Cinematheque in Santa Monica on February 16, 2010. Small octavo. Original black cloth binding, with silver, blue, and blind-stamped titles. A near fine copy in an especially clean and bright dust jacket.
