George Gershwin's Song-book.
Random House, New York., 1932. First edition. Introduction by George Gershwin, followed by a short piece on the artist by Samuel M. Kootz. Folio. pp xi, 167. Frontispiece photograph of Gershwin at the piano by Maurice Goldberg, photograph of Gershwin's hands by "Fitz", black-and-white title-page vignette and18 full-page colour illustrations by Alajalov, a number of which would have been considered quite racy at the time and several of which would be considered quite racist now. Full leather lettered in gilt and with an art deco design of short gilt rules. Contains the music, with Ira Gershwin's lyrics, for 18 songs including some of the most famous ones, "Swanee", "Oh, Lady Be Good", "The Man I Love", "I Got Rhythm", etc. One of 300 numbered copies signed by the composer and the artist.Covers rubbed at joints. ends of spine and corners. As in many copies this lacks the insert, the special sheet music for "Mischa, Yascha, Toscha, Sascha" by Gershwin with words by Arthur Francis. Very good.
