Mark Strizic, Melbourne: Marvellous To Modern. Introduction by Barry Jones.
Fishermans Bend; Thames & Hudson Australia Pty Ltd in association with State Library of Victoria; 2009. - First Edition; Impl. 4to; pp. 176; illustrated with over 150 b/w. photographs, list of illustrations, original grey boards, title lettered in black on spine, black decoration to front board, dustjacket, fine copy. This magnificent collection of photographs arose from the creativity of a young photographer and his adoption of his new home town, Melbourne. Today Mark Strizic is renowned as a photographer. In the 1950's he was a young science student from Europe playing with the possibilities of the camera. The versatility of his work shows us many aspects of 1950's Melbourne - its magnificent architectural heritage, its intimate and vibrant laneways, its grand arcades counter-posed against the sudden spaces created by the new development, the brash intrusion of the glass and concrete skyscrapers, the poignancy of poverty in the run-down inner suburbs.
