Portrait frontispiece, 7 plates. From the library of Admiral of the Fleet John Rushworth Jellicoe, first Earl Jellicoe (1859-1935), commander of the Grand Fleet at Jutland (31 May - 1 June 1916). A couple of pale marks on front cover. An excellent copy. First edition, first impression. Presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the half-title: "To Earl Jellicoe of Scapa from the faithful Author, 20 Oct 1927". Jellicoe's brief two-page Preface opens: "Lieutenant-Commander Capper in this interesting volume writes of the conditions existing in the Navy, and of life on the Lower Deck in the latter half of the last century, and shows how those conditions have altered for the better to-day".
