Grey-green cloth over beveled boards, title and decorations stamped in gilt and black onto upper board and spine, 12mo (7-1/4 inches [18.3 cm] tall), pp. 267, colored endpapers, two tipped-in portrait Woodburytypes (one the tissue-guarded frontis) of Young and his wife, illustrated throughout with scenic engravings and a small Cree Syllabic Alphabet. Inscribed and signed by both the author and his wife on the ffep in the year ("March 1890") of publication. Volume slightly rolled with rubs and light bumps, scattered foxing - mostly to prelims. and edges, faint offset to 2nd fep, old pencil price and pencil erasure to front paste down, a more abrasive erasure at top of ffep, tissue guard with two small tears near gutter, "Sunday March 30, 1890." in pencil at head of "Introduction" page and some pencil check marks variously throughout text. Woodburytypes still bright, clean and showing great detail. "Young's most influential book (said to have raised 'tens of thousands of pounds' for missionary work)."
