The Heart of the Matter (Signed First)
Heinemann and The Book Society 1948 - First edition, first impression (issued alongside the Heinemann trade edition), signed to the half-title page by Graham Greene – one of a small number he signed to promote The Book Society. Very Good: firm and square binding in sharp, very slightly splayed blue boards; a little sunning to the spine and extremities; signs of stressing to the top corner of the lower board; publisher’s red topstain, moderately faded; light, sporadic spotting to the edge of the page block; a couple of small spots to the pages and a tiny chip to the edge of the rfep, else internally crisp and clean. The unclipped (9s 6d net stated) dustwrapper is Near Fine+: notably bright and vibrant, with strong colouring and no fading at all (very scarce, thus); clean white rear panel and flaps; 4mm nick to the top of the rear flap fold and a 5mm closed tear to the top of the front panel; a trace of rubbing to the corners and head of the spine; presented in a removable, archival-quality Brodart protective cover. All orders are sent very carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and sturdy cardboard. GRAHAM GREENE SPECIALISTS. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
