Peter Cooper was born on Feb. 12, 1791, in New York City and in 1875 when he was 84 years old he announced his candidacy for the Presidency. In between he was a businessman in hats, cloth and eventually the RR (i.e., B & O) where he became very rich, founder in 1851 of Cooper Union.
