Coloured Lithoraphy with originally cut out details and blue thin paper mounted verso in the area of the moon (Very Good) 29,5 x 22,5 cm (11.6 x 8.8 inches). - London: James Reynolds, 174 Strand [circa 1850]. An attractive translucent map of the moon, printed on a thick paper, and backed with thin blue paper. - This attractive print with a map of the moon was made in the mid 19th century by James Reynolds in London. The text gives basic information on the moon. The image has cut-out details and is backed with thin blue paper. The print of the moon, printed on thick paper, could be purchased separately, or in a series of other prints with celestial motives. Reynolds made various different impressions of this image in different sizes, and in black and white, as well as coloured versions. More elaborate examples were, such as this one, backed with thin blue paper, so the spectator could observe the print against the light. The cut-outs in the paper made the image of the moon appear three-dimensional.
