J. Disturnell, New York 1844 - An early travel guide from when the Northeastern United States was the West. Brown blind stamped cloth with gilt imprint. Sunning of spine, some lighter spots on cloth, and rubbed and bumped corners. Light foxing and soil on pages. Last page has a narrow three inch-strip missing where it stuck to the rear pastedown. Three plates are present including a Niagara Falls frontispiece, but missing are two maps called for in Howes D 358, although this may have been a different printing without the maps. A six-page appendix is titled Railroad, Canal Packet, and Steamboat Arrangements-1844 and contains a list of all steamers running from Buffalo.
