The Deipnosophists
London - Henry G. Bohn 1854 - A scarce complete set of Yonge's translation of The Deipnosophists, in very attractive full-morocco binding. A philosophical work of enormous importance, The Deipnosophists uses an allegorical series ofbanquets in order to discuss philosophical topics via the means of the guests' dialogue. Notable elsewhere for the extensive discussions of food and homosexuality, as well as condensed quotations from important Greek philosophers, the work has provided valuable insight into ancient Roman and Greek history. Condition: In full morocco binding with gilt detailing. Externally very smart indeed, there is some very minor wear to the backstrips only. Internally, the pages are firmly bound and generally bright and clean, aside from the odd spot and handling mark, particularly to endpages. Overall: NEAR FINE. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
