London: Secker & Warbug, 1964 Cronin, Anthony. THE LIFE OF RILEY. London: Secker & Warburg, 1964. Superb First Edition. 8vo., 222pp. A fine example in silver-lettered blue cloth in a fine, fresh dustwrapper. A superior example of this Cronin comic high spot about life in the bohemian Irish cultural scene of the 1960's, - The story of Riley who overturned his middle-class life - left in his job, his wife & children for the impecunious life of a writer in both in Ireland & England. William Bendix played Rikley from 1953-1958. Jackie Gleason played Riley from 1949-1950. In a preface to this very funny & satirically accurate novel, Cronin states that "this apparent account of about two years of his life was found among the late Patrick Riley's socks, rags and papers after his death.". First Edition.
