The History of Little England Beyond Wales and the Non-Kymric Colony Settled in Pembrokeshire (FIRST Edition 1888)
George Bell & Sons, London 1888 - Chocolate brown coloured boards, with gilt titling, and banded/decorated in gilt, to the spine, with blind stamped borders/central decoration to the front and rear boards. Head and tail of spine and corners 'bumped/chipped/rubbed'. Some extremities rubbed. The corners are 'rubbed' through to the boards on the tips, but overall Good Plus. A slightly lighter 'patch' of colour near the bottom of the spine which looks as if something has been removed, (a number perhaps? ) but no other signs of this being a library copy - maybe one of the former owners catalogued their collection? . An unused/un-filled in 'Ex-Libris' book plate on the front pastedown, and 2 former owners have written their names, etc, on the front free endpaper, together with a small name stamp of a third person. The front and rear inner hinges are splitting/re-glued but the hinges are still sound. (xvi) + (iv) + 458pp + 1 page Corrigenda, which includes a long Appendix and Index, Corrigenda. 12 full page (including the Frontispiece) b/w plates, 8 Fold-out b/w plates and numerous other Illustrations throughout in the text, plus one long folding 'Table exhibiting colouring of English and Welsh speaking Inhabitants of Pembrokeshire'. Some scattered foxing mainly to the endpapers, to the first few and last few pages, the frontispiece, the page edges and occasionally here and there in the text. There are a couple of light brown patches on a couple of the pages where a former owner has left old newsprint in as a bookmark = light staining, but overall the book is Clean, Tight and Bright. Contents cover 'Primary and Pleistocene Pembrokeshire'; 'The Neolithic Period'; 'The Bronze Age'; 'Iron and Rome'; 'The Introduction of Christianity'; 'The Kymro and the Scandinavian'; 'Pembrokeshire Myths'; 'The Norman Conquest'; 'The Flemish Immigration'; 'The Conquest of Ireland and the Descendants of Nesta'; ' Giraldus Cambrensis and his Times'; ' Pembroke under the Earls Mareschal'; 'The subjugation of Wales'; 'The Hundred Years' Peace'; 'The Fifteen Years' Revolt'; 'Cambria Triumphans'; 'Abolition of the Palatinate and Monasteries'; 'Odium Theologicum'; 'The Lords of Lamphey and Carew'; 'Elizabethan Pembrokeshire'; 'The Civil Wars 1 & 2 '; 'The Decadence'; 'About Pembrokeshire Churches'; Misc .etc, etc. A Good Plus copy of this quite scarce but classic Pembrokeshire Title. This book is overweight @ 2 Kilos Unpackaged and MAY require extra postage depending on your location. See Images. ; 4to Large Heavy Thick [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
