Second Edition in Two Volumes Hughs London 1757 - Octavo; 398p,[2]; 406p,[2]. Folding frontipiece to volume one. Bound in modern brown buckram, gilt titles to spines. Bookplate of Royal Agricultural Society to pastedowns, shelf labels to bas spines, stamps to verso of title pages and last page of text. A Good solid set, the text without foxing. Lisle devoted his life to his lands in Hampshire. He had nine daughters who constructewd a curious grotto in the grounds, with portraits of friends painted on the surrounding trees. Alexander Pope was a friend and frequent visitor, celebrating the grotto and daughters in his poem "Inscription on a Grotto of Shells at Crux-Easton". [Attributes: Hard Cover]
