sp;- London - John Major 1823 - An illustrated edition of The Complete Angler. This is the first 'Major' edition of this text. Illustrated, with fourteen plates and numerous wood-cut vignettes. Collated, complete. The Complete Angler or The Compleat Angler was first published in 1653. It is a celebration of the art and spirit of fishing in prose and verse. This edition is based on the fifth edition of 1676, which was the last edition of The Complete Angler to be published during Izaak Walton's lifetime. Notes by Major to the rear of the work. Condition: In a full calf binding. Rebacked with original boards preserved. Externally, generally smart with patches of heavy rubbing to the boards. Hinges have been repaired. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned to edges with tidemark to top of first few pages due to damp staining. Light scattered spots throughout. Overall: GOOD. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
