Toronto: William Briggs, 1898. First edition. Hardcover. Very good. 243 p. 24 cm. 27 colour plates. Green cloth with black and gold impressing. Moderate wear with worn corners. Front free endpaper torn at bottom. A little thumbing. The author traces his family, the Conants, from Devon to Massachusetts to a new life in Canada. There they built a home in the wilderness, and experienced pioneer times as well as the Rebellion of 1837. The author describes how he himself visited the US during the Civil War and had a brief visit with President Lincoln. The story of a family as well as a country.
