Front free endpaper torn at bottom. A little thumbing. The author traces his family, the Conants, from Devon to Massachusetts to a new life in Canada. There they built a home in the wilderness, and experienced pioneer times as well as the Rebellion of 1837. The author describes how he himself visited the US during the Civil War and had a brief visit with President Lincoln. The story of a family as well as a country.
