Woodcuts: Examples from the Work of Clare Leighton
London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1930. First Edition. Hardcover Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 10 by 12-3/4 inches. xviii, followed by 36 leaves with 40 mounted woodcuts printed on tissue, each leaf preceded by a thin paper guard with a printed title. A 41st print, a small vignette of a mouse, is mounted on an unnumbered leaf at the back (as issued). Several small reproductions of woodcuts are incorporated into the text. This retrospective presents Leighton's work in chronological order and inludes original woodblock prints of work done as book illustrations and previously only published as reproductions. Leighton is considered one of the most gifted woodcut artists of her time. First edition (first printing). A near fine copy (decorative bookplate on inside front cover) in a dust jacket with a number of tears, particularly to the rear panel. This is copy 24 of 450 signed and numbered by Leighton.
