This handbook details all the squared-rigged sailing ships existing at the time of publication. The contents includes: "[.] the names, present and past; a description of the individual vessel taking in the material of which she is constructed, the date of building, name of builders and place of building, peculiarities of rig, and an outline of her auxiliary equipment giving horsepower and speed, the name of the builder and the place of its construction[.] there is also given gross and net tonnage according to Lloyds system of measurement; length on water line, breadth to outside plank and depth amidships. Following the descriptive matter is found a history of the vessel and a list of the ship's passages." -from the dust jacket.
