Five Boys, Two Satyrs, and a Goat.
Petrus van Avont, c1647. - Etching. With large margins, pencil notes at bottom, no affect. Left outside margin with minor dampstain, and top right corner with crease, no affect to etching. Mounted at top corners, in matting. Clean and fine impression. Lower left corner with artists names and date. Illustrations: A young boy crowned in wreath of grapes, holding grapes, lifted by young satyr and a boy over the back over a third boy, watched by a fourth, holding a jug, a satyr playing a tambourine at right, and a boy playing a recorder; a goat grazing behind. Hollar (1607-1677), Bohemian, active in London. One of the premier etchers and draftsmen of the 17th century, Wenceslaus Hollar is known for his landscape, architectural and topographical views, still lifes and depictions of women?s fashions.
