Paradise Lost - Paradise Regained - Samson Agonistes - Comus - and the Minor Poems
John Sharpe, London 1816 - Beautifully produced and Morocco bound in two volumes. Raised bands with gilted panels, gilt rules and cartouche to upper and lower boards. Volume One, Paradise Lost, a poem in twelve books, each preceded by a fine quality engraved plate, most drawn by Richard Westall RA and engraved by various hands. Volume Two Paradise Regained, Samson Agonistes etc., follows the same format. The engraved plates are all dated 1816. The title pages are dated 1817. Text pages throughout are clean and bright. Engraved plates have varying degrees of foxing. There is an interesting later19th century press cutting pasted to lower end paper of volume one on the subject of Milton's agreement with his publishers for Paradise Lost stating that he sold the copyright in 1666 for 10 shillings. 175x115mm [Attributes: Hard Cover]
