A Five Title Set in Leather Bindings (Eleven Volumes)
Richard Bentley & Son, London 1848 - Bound in full leather, with red/black title labels and extensive gilt decoration and lettering to spine, this 11 volume set of various Editions and Publishers is bound into uniform binding (see photo). In excess of 5000pp with engraved frontis in each volume and marbled boards, endpapers and edges.Titles as follows:"Conquest fo Peru, 2 vols, Third Edition,1848", "History of Philip 2nd, 3 vols, 1859, First Edition", Ferdinand & Isabella, 2 vols, 11th edition, 1858", "Conquest of Mexico, 2 vols, 1849", History of Charles V, 2 vols, First Edition" Each volume has engraved bookplate of Victor Sefton Smith to fixed front endpaper, First Volume of Ferdinand has front board supported by white tape at front endpaper inner hinge: tiny chips to top/tails of five volumes, otherwise a very nice set!
