NEAR FINE in VERY GOOD price-intact ($2.00) dust jacket. A clean, firmly bound copy. Brief Christmas 1939 gift inscription neatly penned on front pasted endpaper with owner custom book plate affixed underneath the inscription. No other markings, pages fresh and near fine. Bound in beige cloth hardcover with gilt titles stamped within black panels on front and spine. Cloth at base of spine crimped, cover is otherwise fine. Jacket is clean and complete; edges and spine moderately toned and rubbed, one small stain on front cover, small chips from spine ends and flap corner folds. The jacket is in a clear archival protector. Hinges and binding firm, intact and straight. Jacket and endpaper illustrations by Donald McKay. "A Farce in Four Acts" which revolves around Horace Vandergelder, a wealthy Yonkers, New York businessman who seeks a wife. The play was also produced as "The Matchmaker" in Britain and was the inspiration for the musical "Hello Dolly." 5-1/2 x 8-1/2". [viii] + 180 pages.. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good.
