TRUE FIRST EDITION with the image of Twain in flames on page 441 and with "The St. Louis Hotel" caption on page 443. decorative antique volume is bound in cloth with decorative black and gilt inlay and lettering on the front cover and spine. "Life on the Mississippi (1883) is a memoir by Mark Twain of his days as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River before the American Civil War, and also a travel book, recounting his trip along the Mississippi River from St. Louis to New Orleans many years after the War. This antique volume shows nicely with moderate signs of age and handling which include toning, scuffs and edgewear, rubbing and occasional slight soiling. There is a small crack to the rear edge of the spine label. The front inner hinge is cracked and the rear is partially cracked. There is provenance information, as well as a couple other markings, penciled onto the endpapers. . first Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/no dust Jacket. 7¾" - 9¾" Tall. Scarce Novel.
