Limited edition, numbered 134 of 110 numbered copies on China paper, from a total edition of 150. Edgard Tygat, (1879-1957), Belgian painter, printmaker, watercolorist, and illustrator is best known for his delightful edition of Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (1921). He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels; and his work is noteworthy for its sweet, childlike, self-consciously naive, poetic style. He spent four years as "an exile" in London which gave him the opportunity "to better feel the charms in the manners and customs of his country." Carrousels et baraques was the result of childhood memories that came to him like "all the sparks of pearls on black velvet and the little windows of a thousand hues adorning the carousels and booths in my village." (from the preface). Cyril Beaumont, well known as a dance historian, bookseller and publisher, founded the Beaumont Press in 1917 and began to print by hand fine books on poetry of which this is a superb example.
