Architecture - Projects 1779-1786 (title from spine). 20 parts in 1 volume, being a collection of prizewinning designs by students at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in 20 sections of 6 fine engraved plates each (except for Cahier 18 which has 7), for a total of 121 plates on thick paper, without text or title page, each engraving or suite of engravings identifying the type of structure and the architect/designer, including plans for a museum, schools, cathedrals, baths, a hippodrome, a library, triumphal bridges, fountains, chateaux, and many other types of structures. One sheet with paper loss entering into the plate margin but not affecting the image. Folio. Later half-leather with marbled boards. Some minor rubbing to extremities. N.p. (Paris) (Basan, Joubert et Van Cléemputte) n.d. (1779-1786). The École des Beaux-Arts released annually a suite of prize-winning designs by its architecture students in three editions: on ordinary thin paper, on thicker paper suitable for coloring, and a third also on thick paper already colored. This copy is of the second type, and apart for a couple of small areas of pink wash has no coloring applied. The architects whose work is featured in the volume include Trouard, Durand, Percier, Fontaine, Vaudoyer, Moreau, and others. A scarce volume of fine plates; as of March 2017, WorldCat locates only two holdings in North America.
