Nineteen Eighty-Four
Secker & Warburg, London, 1949 First edition, first impression.Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine in red, top edge stained red. With the maroon dust jacket.Spine just a little faded through the jacket and lightly rolled, but a particularly nice copy in the frayed and somewhat scuffed, internally repaired dust jacket. Notably the spine panel of the present example retains a great deal of the original colour and is uncommon thus. The dust jacket on the UK edition was issued in two variant colours: either green or maroon. No priority has ever been suggested and copies of each appear in roughly the same frequency. However the maroon jackets are much more prone to fading and have always been more sought after.[170]
