Original blue cloth, titles to upper board and spine gilt, edges untrimmed. 32pp ads dated Autumn Season 1897.Hinges tender, endpapers browned, cloth rather marked and somewhat rubbed. Good. With the author's signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, "H. Hick (Bless his heart) from H. G. Wells". The recipient, Henry Hick, was the doctor under whose care - indeed at whose house - Wells found himself during the early part of 1898, precisely at the time the present book was published. It was during his difficult convalescence in Hick's house that Wells composed for his doctor's young daughter The Adventures of Tommy, a handwritten and self illustrated manuscript storybook.[50]
