Contemporary calf rebacked preserving much of original gilt spine, gilt arms of the Earl of Drogheda in centre of boards, corners bumped/rubbed, small loss to surface of leather on lower board of vol.2, Drogheda bookplate to front pastedowns, ffep and flyleaf of vol.1 stuck together and slight damage to paper where an attempt to separate them has been made, both vols with engraved portrait frontispiece by George Vertue, engraved vignette on titles, 31 large engraved head- and tail-pieces (mostly by van der Gucht after L. Cheron) and engraved initial letters to many works, list of subscribers in vol.1, closed tear to leaf Y3 of vol.1 not touching text and small worm hole to lower margin of vol.2 extending to signature M but not touching text. 4to *2 A4 a4 B-Iiii2 pp.[20] 590 [14] & *4 B-Xxx4 pp.[8] 527 [1]. Volume 1 is filled with Paradise Lost and includes: ’Notes Upon The Twelve Books of Paradise Lost by Mr. Addison’ with a separate titlepage. There is a half title page to each book of Paradise Lost. Volume 2 contains Paradise Regained, for which there isn't a half title but thereafter each work (Samson Agonistes, Poems on Several Occasions, etc) has a half title page., 4to 11" - 13" tall .
