Recently rebound in quarter calf over marbled paper boards with gilt titles on spine, new endpapers, two stamps of the Inner Temple Library on title page and old bookplate to verso, one or two pages with library stamp in upper margin not affecting text and library stamp on final blank, leaves toward rear with slight dampstaining to lower outer corners not affecting text. This is the third issue (Shawcross 100) of Milton's reply to Salmasius who had written a defence of absolute monarchy and the Divine Right of Kings. Salmasius was a leading European scholar and humanist and his defence had been published by the exiled Charles II. So when Milton's reply was published it brought him recognition not just within the Commonwealth but across Europe. , 4to , xxii + 206 pp .
