The Kupfer-Bibel showcases the state of lexicography and of philological methods in the early eighteenth century and provides a select bibliography of recent publications on these subjects. Scheuchzer, 1672-1733, Swiss scholar, physician, chair of physics, professor in mathematics, credited for being one of the fathers of paleontology, passed away two years prior to the publication of the final volume, a publication process of overall eleven years. The sketches are the work of the artist Johann Melchior Füssli, numerous engravers of the time took part. A beautiful presentation of a rare and important set, revitalizing the splendor of Baroque chalcography .
