Atomernes Bygning og Stoffernes fysiske og kemiske Egenskaber. + Der Bau der Atome und die physikalischen und chemischen Eigenschaften der Elemente.
Copenhagen: Jul. Gjellerup, 1922 + Berlin: Springer, 1922. First paper: 8vo. Original printed wrappers. Offprint from: Fysisk Tidsskrift, 19 (1921). With presentation from Bohr: "Frk. mag sc. B. Trolle / med venlig Hilsen / fra / Forfatteren". (2),70 pp. A fine copy in original wrappers. Second paper: Pages 1-67 in 'Zeitschrift für Physik', vol. 9. The entire volume in contemporary cloth offered here.. First paper: First seperate edition of a lecture delivered by Bohr before the Physical Society of Copenhagen on October 18, 1921. In this lecture Bohr attacked the problem of atomic constitution by asking the question: "How may an atom be formed by the successive capture of the electrons one by one in the field of force surrounding the nucleus?" The answers are found primarly from an analysis of the observed spectra with quidance from the chemical properties and the correspondance principle. (Collected Works, vol. 4, pp.20). The lecture was quickly translated into German and published in 'Zeitschrift für Physik' (second paper offered). It was next included as a third part of 'Drei Aufsätze über Spektren und Atombau' (Braunschweig: Friedr. Vieweg, 1922). An English translation was published as the third essay in 'The Theory of Spectra and Atomic Constitution' (Cambridge: University Press, 1922). A year later a French version appeared in 'Les spectres et la Structure de l´atome' (Paris: J.Herman, 1923).See Pais: Niels Bohr's Times, pp.202-208
