Fun original Platinum Age inked comic self-portrait signed "F.M. Howarth"
n.p., c. 1896. 4.5" X 3.75". "Original ink self-portrait signed ""F.M. Howarth"", on a 4.5"" X 3.75"" card, no date but circa 1896, together with another card signed ""Yours in fun, F.M. Howarth."" Howarth played an important role in comic strip history. In 1903, William Randolph Hearst hired Howarth to work for his Sunday supplement and it was there that Howarth created the ""Lulu and Leander"" comic, which quickly became a standby in Hearst's American-Journal-Examiner comic sections."
