Frankfurt: De Bry, Theodorus, 1590. unbound. good. Disbound collection of views. Uncolored engraving. Book measures 12.75" x 8.75". Stunning collection of prints depicting the indigenous Indians of Virginia, German edition. Includes 21 plates plus magnificent title page and coat of arms. Missing plates 13 and 18, as well as map of Virginia. Theodore De Bry (1528-1598) was born in Belgium but spent much of his career traveling and working around Europe, before settling in Frankfurt-am-Main. This particular collection of prints (based on the paintings of John White) illustrated Thomas Hariot's "Brief and True Report of the new found Land of Virginia", and was included in one of de Bry's most famous works, "Grands Voyages" (Part I). Binding and cover are missing, but title page is intact. Overall toning and minor scattered foxing. Early expert repairs to margins and ink stains on several pages.
