Amstelodami (Amsterdam): Jacobi Wetstenii, 1743. Four volumes complete - Volume One - [12], lxxii, 882pp; Volume Two - [4], 953pp; Volume Three - [4], 860pp and Volume Four - [8], xvi, 500pp, [4]. Contemporary full vellum, raised bands, spines in seven panels, author label to second panel, volume label to third. Covers with double fillet border with an inner double fillet frame with a central arabesque all in blind. A couple of the labels chipped, some flaking to vellum on the backstrip of volume one, vellum a little grubby. Front joint of volume one cracked but holding well. Internally some light browning, with one or two instances of marginalia in pencil, slight loss to top corner of A1 and A2 of volume one (not affecting text). Engraved frontispiece to volume one, titles in red and black. Previous owners name to front free endpapers, (J.T. Coleridge - Samuel Taylor Coleridge's uncle). Brunet III: 1207-8 "edition la plus estimee"; Dibdin calls it "the most beautiful ... the most accurate and complete edition of Lucian that has ever been published" (Dibdin II:193). Parallel Latin / Greek text. First Thus. Full Vellum. Good. 4to.
