Boston: Lamson, Wolffe, and Company, 1896 First edition. Small octavo. Original tan pictorial gilt stamped cloth, t.e.g. No dust jacket. Very good (rubbing on spine; small chip at head and base of spine). 126 pages.Signed and inscribed by Lummis on front free endpaper: "To my little ward Marie, whose unspoiled heart has been a treasure to us all, beyond the riches of Peru & whose genius is an inspiration. With love & all good wishes of her Padre Guardian Chas. F. Lummis Que era "el Torero" Wa-u-wi."This is to Marie "Panchita" Amate. Her father Francisco constructed a cabinet for Lummis at El Alisal. Francisco died in October, 1910 leaving wife Elena who was pregnant. Elana later gave birth to Marie who Lummis nicknamed "Panchita." Elena and Marie remained at the Lummis home.Bookplate of Missouri Historical Society on front pastedown and a couple of modest internal stamps.
