First edition, first impression. Blunden's prose account of the Western Front of the First World War between 1916 and 1918, published together with a selection of his war poetry, was "written without any documentation other than maps" and "represents an extraordinary feat of memory and is Blunden's greatest contribution to the literature of war" (ODNB).
