Light bumping to ends of spine. Dust jacket (not price clipped) shows slight wear with mild soiling, chipping to ends of spine and light wrippling on back, otherwise is a very tight, clean copy. Second state binding of the first edition, with less elaborate gilting on the spine, lighter cloth colour and no gilt insignia on the front cover. near fine A2 in Lecker and David's Annotated Bibliography of Canada's Major Authors. Rare first Canadian Edition of the Manitoba authors most famous book, which was later made into a film. The story, in parallel narratives, is set in the past and the present-day (early 1960s), the Stone Angel tells the story of Hagar Currie Shipley. In the present-day narrative, 94-year-old Hagar is struggling against being put in a nursing home, which she sees as a symbol of death. The present-day narrative alternates with Hagar's looking back at her life. 1964
