W. & C. Tait., Edinburgh. 1823 - Lvi pages of introduction + errata leaf + 406 pages and 10 folding diagrammatical engraved plates. This copy once owned by James Scott, R. N.( Later Admiral) with two signatures one on piece tipped into endpaper and once on the title page. The work details new scientific theory and processes. It states volume one on the title page as a proposal for more to follow. This was the only volume produced and it was published as a single volume in a 2nd edition in 1829. Some light watermarks to title and prelims and some spotting throughout, edges of some plated have an ingrained dust line to outer edges. Later half morocco with morocco label on tan boards. Good copy in a lovely half leather binding. Octavo. * James Scott. R. N. [1803-1866]. Served in the American campaign/war of 1812 and was at Bladensburg, Burning of Washington and Baltimore, prior to this was at the Invasion of Martinique in 1809 and on the Walcheron Campaign in the Peninsula War.
