Robert Armstrong, Public Printer, Washington 1853 - 8vo., tastefully rebound in red cloth, black leather label on spine stamped in gold. Exterior as new. New eps. Hinges tight. Lg. map in good condition with some tape repairs to verso held in a rigid, folding compartment at rear. Mild age toning and essentially no foxing. All plates present as called for except that one of the plant plates is different from that in the list and there is an extra plant plate included. Plates are all in excellent shape, especially the tinted ones of Indians and scenery. pg. 95/96 has an old tape repair at top corner with no loss of text. The Sitgreaves expedition travelled from New Mexico through Arizona to San Diego in 1851. Their careful observations resulted in an important map as well as many plates, tinted and black and white, of scenery, Native Americans, flora and fauna.
