The 75 Year History of Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Southampton, 1891-1966
Privately Printed, Southampton, NY 1966 - 47 pages. Illustrated from photographs and golf course map. 8vo. Navy blue cloth, stamped and lettered in gilt. One of 500 copies, this copy undesignated. First Edition. Scarce and important book on this Long Island, NY, golf club. Founded in 1891, the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club was the first incorporated golf club in America and the first to have a clubhouse, the first to allow women full membership, which it did from the beginning. It was one of the founding members of the USGA in 1894. And, in 1896, the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club held the second official U.S. Open. D&M 54180; D&J G31390. One of the rarest and most sought after of all the golf club histories given the prestige of Shinnecock and the limited edition. Goodner was a long-time editor of Golf Digest. The book is signed and inscribed on the title page by Charles D. Thom, who was served as the pro at Shinnecock from 1908-1961. He was Golf Professional Emeritus at the time this history was published. We specialize in golf books. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
