Letter of Marque for a Liverpool Privateer
London: High Court of Admiralty, 1762. No Binding. Good/No Jacket. This document is a Letter of Marque issued for the Liverpool ship "Dulce" a square sterned ship with three masts. Weighing roughly 140 tons and carrying 10 carriage guns each carrying shot of six and four pounds weight and also with swivel guns. Crewed by 30 men this document allowed the ship to "apprehend seize and take the ships vessels and goods belonging to France and Spain". The document is complete but lacks its official seal of the High Admiralty Court. Nevertheless, despite being a little dusty this is an uncommon survival of a document from the days of legalised maritime piracy. An original document licensing a Liverpool Privateer.
