Illustrated with 8 folding engraved plates - 2 of which handcoloured - depicting a.o. French frigates and their attributes & flags. Including the errata page. End of preface signed in ink : Le V(ice). A(miral). The rare first edition of an early 19th-century dictionary on French Naval history by the admiral of the First French Empire Jean-Baptiste-Philibert Willaumez [1763-1845]. WorldCat mentions only 5 copies of this first edition; no copies in France. Upper and lower part spine with a few damages. Some wear to both joints. Corners rubbed and bumped.
