- Hoover 153; Sotheran 6339. "Rare" (Sotheran) first edition of Born's famous work on his new process of amalgamation. "Born invented an amalgamation process for removing gold and silver from various ores. Since the process did not require the usual melting of the ore, its use effected a considerable saving of fuel. The process was adopted in copper mines throughout Hungary, and Born was given a share of the savings occasioned by its use" (DSB). The engravings are technical drawings of the equipment used in the amalgamation process, accompanied by a description on pages 191-227. Outer margins plates 3, 17 slightly browned, plate 17 very small tear in printed image. Very good copy of this rare and important mineralogical publication.
