The Natural History of Parrots. The Naturalist's Library. Ornithology. Vol VI
EDINBURGH: W H LIZARS, 1836 A very good copy of the first edition with 30 hand coloured plates engraved from drawings by Edward Lear. In contemporary half leather binding. The binding has gilt-decorated raised bands; blind tooled decoration and blind stamped titles to the spine. The titles are clear but it could have had labels at one time. There is some wear and scuffing to the leather and the cloth has slight bubbling and is faded towards the edges. Contents with half title; black and white frontispiece portrait of Thomas Bewick; hand coloured vignette title page with 2 parrots; 2 further title pages; an advertisement extolling the virtues of Edward Lear's pictures; contents listing; Memoir of Thomas Bewick (by the Reverend Turner); and text with 30 hand coloured plates at the rear. Text and plates are very clean and in very good condition. There is some offsetting to tissue guards which have some browned areas. Plate 11 has a small browned area from its tissue guard.
