London: Peter Owen, 1965 - Octavo. Original green boards, titles and decoration gilt to spine. With the dust jacket. Slight creasing to spine ends, small bump to lower outer corner of front board, faint mark to top edge; a very good copy in the jacket with nicks to extremities, slight rubbing to panels, short closed tear to head of rear panel and a couple of small marks to join of rear panel and spine. Frontispiece and 4 plates. First UK edition, first impression. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "For Dr. Nathan Hiatt - presenting another phase or two of 'my anecdotal life.' Henry Miller, 1/21/66". Nathan Hiatt was the husband of Lita Warner, daughter of Lina Basquette and Sam Warner, cofounder of Warner Brothers. Miller first met Anaïs Nin in 1930 and she quickly became his lover and financier, funding the first printing of Tropic of Cancer in 1934. Gunther Stuhlmann (1927–2002) was Nin's literary agent from 1957 until Nin's death in 1977. Published in the US in the same year. Uncommon signed, with only one copy traced at auction.
