London: Little, Brown, 1951. A first edition, first printing published by Little, Brown in 1951. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid, boards lightly rubbed and worn but the gilt along the spine is strong. Lower right corner of the book and text block bumped which has caused creasing to the corners of the pages. The dust wrapper has shelf-wear present with chipping to the extremities. Dust wrapper is unclipped showing $3.00 to the top of the front flap. The Catcher in the Rye is a 1951 novel by J. D. Salinger. A controversial novel originally published for adults, it has since become popular with adolescent readers for its themes of teenage angst and alienation. It has been translated into almost all of the world's major languages. Around 250,000 copies are sold each year with total sales of more than 65 million books.
