The Holy Bible .
London, George Eyre and Andrew Strahan 1826. - 27.5 by 22 cms, 1192pp. Comprising the Old and New Testaments and Apocrypha. Brown calf , with five panelled spine, original label, black and gilt. Frontispiece and 47 other illustrations along with a folding view / map of Jerusalem in the time of Christ. The etchings, along with the map, are hand tinted in colour and very fresh. Some are marked as tinted by T. Sutherland. Their almost folk-art iconography merits study as being similar to that found on historic, and contremporary, Orange Order banners and those of other religio-political organisations. There are some signs of wear, and a few old pencil annotations, but overall this is a very good tight copy with splendid bright colourful illustrations A heavy book with implications for postage.
