Book has been professionally restored in Good brown boards with attractive gilt design with a black background to the front board and spine & gilt lettering to the spine - slight marking to the boards, slight surface rubbing to the front board decoration, some bumping and wearing to the extreme corners and some bumping and wearing to the extreme ends of the spine. Bookplate of 'Geoffrey S Garnier' to verso of front endpaper & inscription reads 'M. G. Cornish Left to me by my beloved brother '?' M Garnier, on his dying bed - June 1904' - *Also see note below. Contents, new paste downs and end papers, slight marking to the black free front end paper & half title page, slight browning to the occasional page & some spotting to the rear free end papers otherwise clean and tightly bound. *This is one of a collection of books from the estate of Jill & Geoffrey Garnier of Newlyn. Jill Garnier [1890 - 1966] Jessie Garnier nee Blyth, always known as Jill, came to Newlyn to study at the Forbes school. There she met her future husband (and cousin) Geoffrey Garnier. Both Jill & Geoffrey became central figures in the later Newlyn School. The couple settled in Orchard Cottage, Newlyn, where they each had large studios built in the garden. It was here that Geoffrey worked as an etcher/engraver and producer of aquatints. Jill spent all the time she could painting or designing and create beautiful embroidered pieces but in those less liberated times she had to juggle her art with the demands of looking after children and running a house. Size: 9 inches tall by 6 inches. xxx, 459 pages which includes a catalogue index. With a woodcut portrait to the title page & 12 full page etchings with a detailed explanation of how these were achieved on the page opposite of each etching. Quantity Available: 1.
