Book folio. 32cm, 335 & 11 & 4pp., 3 volumes in One, bound in contemporary full speckled calf, blind tooled border and decoration on the boards, raised bands, gilt decorations in the panels, red leather label, gilt titles, edges worn, title and half title dust stained else a very good to fine copy in contemporary binding (N13) Sacherverell was impeached for preaching two sermons in which he advocated Tory doctrines of non-resistance and passive obedience. Although his sermons were ordered burned by the common hangman and he was prohibited from preaching for three years, he was allowed to perform other clerical functions, including accepting preferments. Such leniency was regarded as a triumph for the High-Church and Tory party. .
